1. Metro Lacrosse’s travel program for grades 8 thru12 is referred to as “Magic” and “miniMagic” refers to players in grades 6 and 7. Metro “Magic” is a private club with membership by invitation only after a player tryout. Membership is renewed yearly in January. Prior membership on Metro “Magic” does not guarantee future membership.
2. The purpose of Metro “Magic” is to provide top-level training and opportunities for exposure for those athletes whose goal it is to compete at the highest levels while in high school, and eventually to play at the collegiate level.
3. There are six practice squads with approximately 35 to 40 players each. Practice assignments are based on high school graduation year. Within each practice squad, two teams will be formed. Team assignments will be determined by the coaches after the first 4 months of practice and announced by June 1. The older players, “Magic”, will be divided by ability into an “A” and a “B” team to compete at tournaments. Younger players, “miniMagic”, will have two teams as well, but will be divided evenly.
4. One of the ultimate goals of the “Magic” program is to teach player responsibility. We hold them accountable for their actions and decisions. Therefore, all players are instructed to handle all communications with their Metro “Magic” coaches/Metro office. These skills are essential in developing our players for future college play.
5. It is required that all players will attend all of the scheduled practices for their age group (’09, ‘10 etc.). If that is not possible due to an emergency, it is the responsibility of the player to notify their coach by phone or e-mail that they will be missing and the reason. Practice schedules for all levels are available on the website.
6. Metro provides
support and guidance in the college search process. We will host a
“College Night” in February/March to answer your questions and provide
direction. We will complete and mail player evaluation forms that you
provide, and communicate with coaches via phone calls and e-mails. We do
not write letters of recommendation. Your selection and participation in our
program is our recommendation.
Tournament Policies:
1. Tournament dates are
available on the website. Sign-ups for
tournaments will take place on or about March 1st. Registration for tournaments will be done
through www.thelaxwiz.com.
Players will be instructed by e-mail when to register.
2. All travel and accommodations for tournaments are the responsibility of the player’s family (except in the case of “road trips” see #2 below). Information regarding directions to tournaments, hotels, and player waivers will be available on our website: www.metrolacrosseclub.com.
3. There are usually 2 road trips a year for high school age players. On these trips, Metro will arrange the transportation and accommodations for all players and it will be included in the tournament fees. Players must travel and stay with the team on road trips.
4. Player placement on teams for tournaments is the sole decision of the coaches. It will be based on team needs and players performance, NOT on requests or parental input. A tournament’s schedule of games is usually not available to us until a few days prior to the tournament and is ALWAYS subject to change by the tournament director.
5. Players should arrive at the field for tournaments 30 minutes before their first scheduled game and 20 minutes before each subsequent game. They should be in full uniform and prepared to warm up at that time. Being on time is the PLAYERS responsibility – not the parents. If this rule is not adhered to, the player will lose playing time for that game.
6. All players will receive some playing time. Time played will be at the discretion of the coach. Each year, Metro “Magic” attends tournaments with a wide variety of competition levels. Whereas the goal of some tournaments is purely fun, participation and exposure; others include a championship format. At these more competitive tournaments, it benefits the entire Metro program for our teams to perform well. In those situations, playing time will be determined with the focus on winning.
7. Players are discouraged from joining or committing to other travel lacrosse programs that interfere with their participation in Metro. If “Magic” is attending a given tournament, our players who are interested in attending that tournament must play on the “Magic” roster. We do not want to compete against our own players.
Fees and Refund policy:
1. Membership is paid annually. This fee covers players’ practice time and will be instructed by the Metro staff. Full payment must be made by February 1st (unless other arrangements are made with our office). Since player registration holds a spot on the roster, no refunds will be made for any reason after February 1st.
.
2. Tournament fees, uniform and travel expenses are separate from the annual membership fee. Our uniform includes Metro “Magic” shorts and reversible jersey. All new players must order a complete uniform.
3. Amount of tournament entry fees will vary. They are based on roster number requirements and amount being charged by tournament directors. In the very rare instance of a tournament being cancelled, only the actual player entry fee will be reimbursed.
4. Once a tournament entry fee is paid, it will not be refunded FOR ANY REASON if less than two weeks exist before the tournament (this includes change of family plans, player injury, or illness). In addition, entry fees will not be credited to pay for a future tournament.
