FEATURED COACHES FOR 2010:
Duke: Assistant Coach, Alex Kahoe
Alex Kahoe is in her third season as an assistant
coach with the Duke women’s lacrosse team. During her time at Duke, the Blue
Devils have enjoyed national prominence reaching two national semifinals and
capturing an ACC regular season title. Kahoe enjoyed an outstanding career at
Maryland as a goalkeeper, leading the Terrapins to five-straight NCAA Division
I national titles from 1996-2000, in addition to three Atlantic Coast
Conference titles and a combined record of 100-5 during her tenure. She was a
two-time team captain, earned All-America honors from 1998-2000, and was the
NCAA Goalie of the Year her final two seasons. In addition, Kahoe was the 1997
ACC Rookie of the Year and the ACC Goalie of the Year three times, to go along
with four All-ACC nods. She was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary team in 2002,
and in the spring of 2006 was selected to the NCAA 25th Anniversary All-Time
Women’s Lacrosse team.
Kahoe set a school record for saves in a single
season by a Maryland goalie with 269, breaking an 18-year old record, and broke
the school career save record with 968. That total is good for second-most
all-time in NCAA history, while her 269 saves during the 1998 season was the
most in the nation that year. Kahoe’s 18 saves in the ACC Tournament finals
versus Virginia in 1999 is the standing record, in addition to her 30 for the
whole tournament that season.
Boston College: Head Coach, Bowen Holden
Bowen Holden enters her fifth year
as the Eagles' head coach. The 2009 season marked one of the best in school
history, especially since entering the ACC in 2005. Completing its first
winning season with a 9-8 record (9-9 overall), the Eagles made great strides.
Five of the team's opponents were ranked in the top 10-15 in the country
throughout the entire season. Four individuals were honored as IWLCA Regional
All-Americans, two made the All-ACC team (the most ever), four were named to
the All-ACC Academic Team, two were honored as IWLCA Academic Honor Roll
members, and the entire team was an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for maintaining
a GPA above 3.0.
Harvard University: Head Coach, Lisa Miller
Lisa Miller, who built the Syracuse women's lacrosse
program from scratch into a perennial NCAA tournament contender, returns for
her fourth season in 2010. Miller has
made a tremendous impact on the team in just three seasons at the helm, guiding
the Crimson to its best three-year record since 1994-96. The Crimson has won
two games against nationally-ranked teams, beat Princeton for the first time in
nearly two decades, boasted two Ivy League Rookies of the Year and had the
league's leading scorer two years in a row.
Harvard, with one of the best offenses in the Ivy League, posted its
best conference record since 2006, going 3-4 in league play in 2010. It was the
second winning season for Miller in her three seasons with the Crimson. Harvard
recorded its second win over a nationally-ranked team under Miller, knocking
off No. 15 New Hampshire in March. The Crimson also made history, beating
Princeton, 11-9, on Alumni Day for the first time since 1992. Freshman Jennifer
VanderMeulen '13 was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year and led the league in
scoring all season long. Harvard had three All-Ivy League recipients for the
second time during her tenure.
University of Vermont: Head Coach, Jen Johnson
Jen Johnson's is in her seventh year at the helm of
the Vermont women's lacrosse program. A
three-time All-American at Penn State and a former co-captain of the Canadian
National Women's Lacrosse Team, she was named the head women's lacrosse coach
at UVM on July 2, 2004. Johnson has
been the architect of rebuilding the UVM women's lacrosse program into a top
tier team in America East. In the nine years before Johnson arrived at UVM the
Catamounts totaled five league wins. Since she took over in 2005, Vermont has
totaled 13 conference victories in six seasons. Johnson, the America East Coach of the Year in 2008, led Vermont
to its second straight America East Championship appearance in 2009. UVM
finished the year with a record of 9-8 overall, the team's fisrt winning season
since 1994. The Catamounts tied the school record of most in s in a season (9).
In 2008, after being picked to finish sixth in the league's preseason coaches'
poll, UVM, under Johnson's direction, returned to the America East Women's
Lacrosse Tournament for the first time since 2003. Vermont went 8-9 overall on
the year, recording the most wins since 1993. The Catamounts were the America
East Runner-up with a 5-1 mark in the league standings. Vermont's five
conference wins were the most in school history and its second place finish was
the in the program's history.
